The Whiteness of Revelation
The MSM says it's the world's greatest evil. The Bible describes it as the very backdrop of the culmination of history. Is it just coincidence?
For ethnicity will arise against ethnicity…Then they will hand you over unto tribulation and will kill you; and you will be hated by all the ethnicities on account of My name.
Matthew 24:7,9 (Literal Emphasis Translation)
Look at them.
I mean, really look at them.
What you’re looking at is an American fever dream, a family who knew who they were, the sun shining down on them as though they were the only intended recipients of its light.
They were made for it. And it was made for them.
Meet the Shumard family, circa 1955, apparently somewhere in the sunny land of California.
They are the family used for the Wikipedia entry for the phrase “nuclear family” with the caption, “An American nuclear family composed of the mother, father, and their children circa 1955.”
Of course, thanks to “love is love,” pregnant men, “My Two Dads” all the way to “Modern Family,” we have no idea what the word family even means, so using these folks - who have either long passed or are on their way out even as of this writing - as the model family simply will not do.
No, we’re going to need a newer, shinier, not-so-Caucasian definition, if you please.
Enter “The Great Big Book of Families” by Mary Hoffman. Keep in mind, this was published in 2011.
The stunning simplicity of the Shumards’ example as a nuclear family has been usurped by a “debunked” (and now, they tell us, antiquated) notion of what a family actually is.
"Once upon a time," Hoffman writes, "most families in books looked like this." The caption is above an illustration showing what might be considered a Caucasian “nuclear family”, smiling, active, and seemingly content.
"But in real life,” Hoffman adds, families come in all sorts of shapes and sizes."
“But in real life…..” So, families don’t ever look like this? This kind of family is extinct?
White folks aren’t real life, dontcha know?
“Caucasians” are just an illusion, one which has nothing to do with “real life.”
Don’t believe me? Think I’m being overly dramatic?
Take this challenge, then. Right now. Come back when you’re done.
Did you take the challenge? If so, did you notice any startling (if unsurprising) results? Like, say, the difference between searches with the words “white” and “black” them?
See, early 21st-century Google would’ve returned predominantly white families for the search term “white family.” But in this era of Google race mischief, here’s what the image search comes up with:
Granted, there are certainly white families that come up in the results.
There are, however, some interesting and inaccurate results, some of which beg the question, “Wait, how did that get in there?”
Like the Obama family photo. Or the all-black of the 1980s TV show “Family Matters.” Or the now-ancient Sly and the Family Stone, which had one white member.
Again, we searched for “white family.” What algorithm, exactly, would prompt Google to return a photo of the Obamas or an all-blacks 70s soul band?
Contrast that with the near-monolithic results for “black family,” few of which would be surprising to anyone.
And that’s odd in a conversation about family, considering that single parents are more likely to be female and black, or that black biological fathers are far less likely than white biological fathers to be married to the mother of their children, or that close to 70 percent of all births to black mothers are nonmarital. Or that black children are more than twice as likely as Hispanics and whites to live with no parent at all.
According to Google Images, none of these facts and figures represent “real life.” All that matters is the algorithm.
Even The MSM Is Taking Notice
In late May, the right-leaning but still mainstream Townhall published a column by Will Alexander in which the author warns of an increasingly aggressive effort marshaled by both political power and media empire to target, demonize, and denigrate white Americans in the eyes of the rest of the nation’s populace.
It’s an an ambitious thesis, to be sure, but quite compelling in its evidence, and certainly not the first time such a thesis has been proffered in conservative media.
But then, Alexander - who happens to be black - makes this startling comparison:
Does this stuff sound familiar? How is it so different from the way anti-Semites conditioned Europe to hate Jews? Hitler’s horrors would never have been possible without people at the centers of influence, for decades, normalizing the demonization of the Jews.
How is it different? It’s a reasonable question.
There are only two equally reasonable responses: either A) it’s not different and white Americans are, in fact, being systematically demonized towards a future (if currently unknown) end; or, B) such a phenomenon is not actually occurring, but is rather the hyperventilation of Nazis and rednecks.
Think that dichotomy is an exaggeration? If there were a third alternative, that messaging would be everywhere, on every news network, in every newsletter, drowning out all dissent on social media.
But it is not. Because no other explanations are possible.
Sure, none of this is technically new. Over the second half of the 20th century, pop culture is filled with lighthearted yet biting narratives about the inferiority of white men in particular.
Who can forget that 90s classic “White Men Can’t Jump,” which almost certainly help normalized the emasculation of white men in the context of controlled environments like basketball, where black men in particular have flourished?
One of my favorite movies of that decade. Remember how the other team refused to take Billy Hoyle, played by Woody Harrelson, “‘cause he white”?
We laughed then, because, well, it was funny. Mocking and denigrating white people had not yet been adopted as the new state religion, so back then, it was refreshing in its honesty that, yes, come to think of it, generally speaking, white guys really can’t jump all too well.
Nation-build? Sure. Lead a home? Definitely. Invent and innovate? Without a doubt.
Dunk a basketball? Not so much.
But boy, we’ve sure come a long way since then.
Last month, Elon Musk, arguably the world’s most influential white guy, commented on this meme:
The graphic, citing U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics from 2018, highlights the disproportionate rate of violence committed by blacks (and to a lesser degree Hispanics) against whites, and then shows a TV camera focusing solely on the comparatively minuscule white-on-black crime rate.
Note, if you will, that white crimes against Hispanics is nearly three times that of whites on blacks - yet which one do you hear about more?
Also note, the two highest tiers (black-on-white and Hispanic-on-white) comprised nearly 3 times the rest of the violent incidents combined.
“Odd, why would the media misrepresent the real situation to such an extreme degree?” Musk tweeted.
It’s a valid yet rhetorical question, of course, coming from a South African, whose home country is apparently powerless to stop the death of a white farmer every five days.
Turns out Musk was on to something.
Nearly a third of white Americans say they have seen “a lot more” discrimination against white people in the past five years – and more than half of them say they have not seen a rise in discrimination against Black and Latino Americans.
A May 2022 University of Maryland Critical Issues Poll further found that a majority of white Americans do not believe that there has been a rise in discrimination against minority groups.
If you were like most Americans, you probably missed this Associated Press diatribe in 2021 which asked, in the wake of the now-debunked “riot” at the U.S. Capitol, “how does the nation begin addressing the war of white aggression after countless missed opportunities?”
Remember when the death of George Floyd, a documented criminal drug addict, spawned an overtly anti-Christian movement called Black Lives Matter?
They were chanting “F— your Jesus” in the streets.
They admitted BLM was actually about a “deeply radical” work aimed at “literally almost resurrecting a spirit so they can work through us to get the work that we need to get done.”
They burnt down a historic D.C. church, set fire to others and stormed at least one church over its congregation’s God-given and Constitutionally-protected right to worship and believe according to their convictions.
The cultural revolution of 2020, in fact, gave license to mainstream and corporate-owned media outlets to conflate skin color with Christianity, a former cultural taboo we were long told was racist in itself.
The Guardian even sought to convince its readers that if you don’t hold to the idea that “whiteness is an invention,” one that was conveniently achieved by substituting the word “white” for “Christian,” well, you just might be a racist.
Christianity, the narrative goes, is simply a symptom for “whiteness”, that nefarious evil force which has, ostensibly, afforded the formerly impoverished and illiterate masses to beget offspring that would later be able to read and write and afford the means to share their accusation of the “privilege of whiteness” on a social media platform of their own choosing.
Interesting that the culture, after millennia of assurances from Christians of all backgrounds to the contrary, now plainly declares Christianity, that all-encompassing force that has, for both blessing and cursing, shaped our world for 2,000 years, the “white man’s religion.”
Would Jesus Say ‘White’?
Though “whiteness” was not yet a thing in the first century in the land of Israel, and certainly not viewed in the racial context as we understand it today, Jesus had plenty to say about the subject of “white.”
In fact, much of the book of the Revelation - including descriptions of the Lord Himself - is teeming with what today’s SJWs might refer to as terms of “whiteness”:
His head and his hair were white as white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire.
Revelation 1:14
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who overcomes, I will give the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone inscribed with a new name, known only to the one who receives it.
Revelation 2:17
But you do have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their garments, and because they are worthy, they will walk with Me in white. Like them, he who overcomes will be dressed in white. And I will never blot out his name from the Book of Life, but I will confess his name before My Father and His angels.
Revelation 3:4-5
I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, white garments so that you may be clothed and your shameful nakedness not exposed, and salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see.
Revelation 3:18
Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and on these thrones sat twenty-four elders dressed in white, with golden crowns on their heads.
Revelation 4:4
Then each of them was given a white robe and told to rest a little while longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers, were killed, just as they had been killed. Revelation 6:11
After this I looked and saw a multitude too large to count, from every nation and tribe and people and tongue, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and holding palm branches in their hands.
Revelation 7:9
Then one of the elders addressed me: “These in white robes,” he asked, “who are they, and where have they come from?” Sir,” I answered, “you know.” So he replied, “These are the ones who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.” Revelation 7:13-14
And I looked and saw a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was One like the Son of Man, with a golden crown on His head and a sharp sickle in His hand.
Revelation 14:14
And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. Revelation 19:8
Then I saw heaven standing open, and there before me was a white horse. Revelation 19:11
The armies of heaven, dressed in fine linen, white and pure, follow Him on white horses.
Revelation 19:14
When it comes to God’s final act of history, the color white is everywhere. Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, we are given these very clear and unequivocal descriptions.
So, here’s the question: putting the racial aspect aside, why does the world now so desperately seek to demonize “whiteness”?
So many aspects of the Biblical future that is promised to those who are in Christ Jesus are grounded in explicit whiteness - the throne, the stone, the robes, etc - that it’s hard to avoid drawing some sort of parallel between the two.
Forget “white people” specifically.
Why is the very notion of whiteness - linguistically associated with innocence, purity, and, according to the Bible, holiness - why are these things under sustained cultural attack?
Why is whiteness being transformed into a cultural pejorative? Is this merely a political attack, or a spiritual one?
Does it have less to do with skin color and more to do with the coming King and His armies on white horses?
Is this about His Kingdom of redeemed sinners who were washed white in the blood of the Lamb, who the Bible says will wear white robes and sit on white thrones?
Are we even allowed to ask that question anymore? Or is that now “hateful”?
And what happens if and when “whiteness” - which, we are now told, is a synonym for Christianity - becomes criminalized, instead of merely politically demonized as it it today?
Will those who long for that day of being clothed in righteousness in the perfect presence of the Holy One of Israel be accused of supporting “whiteness”?
Where, exactly, is this all going?
I suspect we’ll all find out together soon enough.
